This is a project that I originally submitted to GDC’s Narrative Review competition last semester. I was recently informed that it was not selected to move forward in the competition, but I spent quite a bit of time and energy working on it, and I was happy with how it came out, so I’m publishing it here.
A narrative review is essentially a summary and analysis of the narrative elements of a game, breaking down important aspects and identifying the narrative’s strongest and weakest elements. This project summarizes Halo 2: Anniversary, particularly in contrast to the original version of Halo 2, and how the remaster affects the narrative compared to the original presentation of the game. I have included it in this post as a pdf link in order to preserve the formatting. It’s around fifteen pages, and is arranged in accordance with GDC’s rules regarding submissions. Enjoy!
If you’re interested in reading more of this kind of thing. GDC has a website where they post winners of the Narrative Review Competition. You can find it at https://www.gdcvault.com/gamenarrativereview
